Looking for customization stories.
whats up grease monkeys. tell me your stories. I wat to hear about the stuff that you have had done, things your friends had done, and all that shi* that you heard about. I'm interested in details though. what exactly was done to the best of your knowledge. What was the ride? What was done? Was it good work? Did you do it yourself or did you pay someone else to do it for you? What did you spend? Do you think you got a deal or face planted over the rear bumper and introduced to Shaft? I want to know everything. Here's why. I am a customizer. Hot rods, lead sleds and custom jobs on new shit too. A guy wants lambo hinges on a mid 80's capris. (yeah I dunno but thats what he wants) Stories give me ideas. I have never been much of a poster on LJ, more of a voyur but that will change soon. A buddy of mine has a shop that he got into a few months back and he is doing mainly paint work. Custom and nice earl schrive's but he doesn't really have any fabrication experience and jack shit for auto mechanical knowledge. he wont even pull the engine out of a 59 chevy pick em up (thats a 30 min job) thats where I come in. I have been a fabricator for years, most recently at a stainless steel shop (huge microwaves, two ton of bacon per hour, and the machines that make drugs, asprin exct.) So yeah tell me your stories and later Ill show you mine.

LPG conversion
I am in need of info. I have an 87 VW golf 16 valve 1.8L GTI that I want to convert to LPG. I can install it myself with no problem but I need to do it as cost effectivly as possible. If anyone knows of any resources for finding the under hood components at a reasonable price that would be tons of help.

fuel leaking...
My husband went to put gas in his car this morning and gas came out of a hose that is between the gas tank area and the tire (inside of the wheel well). He stopped pumping and then started again- and it didn't leak out the second time. Nothing is leaking now or while he is driving. Is this the overflow? and why would it have leaked if the tank wasn't full...

thanks much.

If it matters- his car is a 1992 mercury grand marquis.

If you took a vehicle’s weight, times gas mileage, and divided that figure by the price times the sum of the NHTSA crash test numbers for that vehicle (head injury criterion, chest deceleration, femur load, rollover percentage, etc), what vehicles would you suspect to have the highest resulting numbers?

I grant you that the highest resulting vehicle would not necessarily be the safest for the money, but it might provide some clues. For instance, I suspect that side impact numbers are more important than front impact numbers, but I don't really have much data on it. I am not sure how to weight the rollover statistics either. Features such as ABS which aren't really tested in crash tests, I think I will have to consider in a separate category for now.

New...please help me
Hey guys, I got a '95 lincoln towncar and I was wondering if anyone would know what's going on with it's electrical system...

I live at school and come home on weekends periodically, like maybe every 2 weeks or so. I know when you let a car sit it's not exactly good for the battery. So I went to start it up after having it sit for 2 weeks and it didn't have the kick, so my old man jumped it and it was working fine from there. I know it wasn't the alternator cuz we checked it. I drove it around the whole day after just fine. but ever since it was jumped, when the driver's side of the car was opened and the engine is turned off, it would constantly beep as if a light was on or some kind of current was flowing. I didn't think much of it, but the next day the battery was completely dead and I couldn't start it at all. So I get the battery replaced and installed it myself (the battery did have a dead cell), but there's still some kind of current flowing even when the car is turned off. My old man was looking around, and apparently a penny or metal gumwrapper in the garbage or cigarette lighter was draining it, but we don't know...when we tried cleaning it out, there was sparks as if there's some sort of short. If anyone has any idea what's going on here and what I can do, please reply.

Car woes
Well, less woeful now, so it's wallet woes instead. It looks like all of my paycheck that didn't go to rent is going to go to Red now. I just spent $135 to get the back brakes done, I need to get the brake fluid flushed and replaced (another $70, soon) and the front brakes while still "fine", show to be at 7/32nds remaining, whatever that means.

Also, my head gasket leak seems to be worsening, as Red was off stick again when they checked her... I'm going to check myself soon, because it was pretty obvious that they were looking for more work on a car of her age (and somehow the bumper stickers didn't tip them off to the fact that I do most of my own work on my car), and I won't put it past them to fudge the results slightly when it means more work and more pay for them. Case in point: they also wanted to change my air filter (HELLO, *I* can do that myself) and top off my radiator (see previous comment), and *drain and replace my transmission fluid* (WTF, *seriously* WTF?). And there's this weird comment, that the guy at the desk didn't say anything about, that says that one of my right shocks is leaking and that replacement is required. Um.

But still, the brake work has a 12k mile or 12 month warranty... So that's a good start at least, right?
